ACTION ALERT - Progress made, but more action needed
Dear Parents,
We want to to express to you our appreciation for all the calls and emails that you have generated regarding SB 5410. Because many of you have contacted your legislators and informed them of the negative consequences of this bill, the legislation has been altered greatly so that online schools can still operate in Washington state.
YET...we still need your help!
We are asking that you do 2 more things:
1) We need you to contact your legislators to improve the timelines in the bill.
2) We need you to spread the word to other online education families and encourage them to sign up for the coalition.
As we said before, the legislation has been improved, yet the timelines in the bill are far too short for the schools to make the changes in time without jeopardizing the funding for our schools. We need to make sure the legislation doesn't require timelines that will hurt our schools and negatively impact the education our children are receiving.
Please take the time again to contact your legislators and the Senators on the Ways and Means Committee with this very simple message -- Save our schools by pushing back implementation of SB 5410 to 2011 or later. You can talk about the importance of the schools to your families and your children's education, but the central message needs to be moving the implementation back to the year 2011.
You can contact legislators by visiting the Action Center on our website by clicking here.
Also, as this legislation is moving through the system, it is important that we add more voices to our team.
As the legislative session goes on, legislators are inundated with calls and emails from many different groups. We need to make our views stand out to make the necessary impact. Please reach out to other families who are involved in on-line education and strongly encourage them to join the Washington Families for Online Learning.
They can be families involved with ANY of the other online schools in our state. Encourage them to visit our website at www.waonlinefamilies.org and sign up today! This is vitally important to our groups success and to the future of on-line education in Washington.
Again, thank you for all your help -- we are certainly making a difference in Olympia!
Best Regards,
