Can you join us in...

Please join us in spirit or in person as Governor Gregoire signs the online legislation into law:

Governor's Conference Room
Legislative Building at the Capitol in Olympia

Monday, May 18th at 3:00pm

Now, before I get too excited I need to add a cautionary note. The governor's office called to tell us that the governor has scheduled "action" on the online learning legislation, SSB 5410. Legislatively, she has the power to "veto" the bill. Politically, it'd be a disaster to "kill" the bill with dozens of supporters in the room to celebrate continued access to quality online learning programs. We're expecting it will be a signing ceremony.

We're inviting students who testified on behalf of the coalition at the Senate and House of Representatives  hearings to be in the official photo with the governor. We're inviting all participants and supporters of online learning to join them. We can take photos of our larger group when we enjoy some cookies in the Senate Rules Room following the signing ceremony.

We can meet in front of the Lt. Governor's office (2nd floor) beginning at 3:00. That's where we will be briefed on the flow moving into the Governor's Office and then into the Conference Room where the governor signs the bills. There's likely to be plenty of action and time for visiting with each other as well.

It's all happening fast. We don't expect everyone to make it to Olympia... and we'd love to have some families come share in the action. Maybe your family would like to just witness the ceremony or, perhaps, your family would like to help spread the word to the media about why your online public school program is a good fit for your child. If talking with the media interests you, on Monday please find our coalition coordinator, Gigi Talcott, who would love to meet you, or send an email to us at info@waonlinefamilies.org .

Sure hope some of you can join us to mark this amazing success. The governor's signature will transform the legislative work into state law. The legislation should strengthen the framework for online public school programs for years to come.

Many more thanks and congratulations!
