Online public school programs give our children a qualified Washington state teacher, innovative mastery-based curriculum, flexibility and accountability whether our child needs to catch up, move ahead or wants to dig deeper into a subject.

We've selected online learning for our child's education for a variety of personal reasons including medical needs, special education, difficulties in traditional classroom settings, or a desire for more individualized instruction. Whatever the need, we are seeking to get the best education for our child.

In most full-time online public school programs, a learning coach serves as the student's face-to-face motivator and as the eyes and ears for the teacher. Often the learning coach is a parent, but grandparents, aunts, uncles, caregivers and others can also do it.

Online classes often attract a cross section of students of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, academic abilities and special needs. Online learning makes it possible for our students to access a menu of educational opportunities to fit their needs, regardless of whether they live in a neighborhood with a top-ranked school or a low performing school. Online education is "untethered". It's available wherever the internet is available.

Our non-profit board leads our coalition in planning and implementing our annual "Online Learning Day at the Capitol", advocates for support of online public school programs, provides demonstrations of online learning and in election years, publishes a "Voter's Guide" measuring legislative candidate's interest in online learning. We're just starting to create a social networking site and we hope to add some fun stuff, like outings around the state, as we continue to build a voice that will preserve and expand student's online educational opportunities.

Voter's Guide

The National Association of State Boards of Education called online learning the "future of education" in their 2001 report titled, "Any Time, Any Place, Any Path, Any Pace". Thanks to the vision of Washington State Legislators, that's what our families are doing every day!
